Her Recent work

Rimah Jabr's understanding of theatre is deeply shaped by her experience growing up in Palestine.

“Theatre is about time and space and I have a complex relationship with both. As a Palestinian, space is not simply defined in my mind due to external influences that can shift it. Home, for example, is subject to invasion at any time, so the door loses its function and meaning, becoming a symbol of when it will be open, not if. Time is determined by curfews, so a room can feel like a prison, even without a locked door. Outside home space is a checkpoint, gate, and road mount block. Horizon is a military tower and a hilltop settlement.

Growing up in Palestine has naturally influenced my creative process, especially in writing, directing, and artistic expression. The narrative and context of Palestine profoundly impact and sometimes even dictate the staging process. By collaborating with scenographers, I've realized that it is important to start the creative process by asking a fundamental question: What is the spatial experience of each play or story?”

The Apartment

A couple is trapped inside their apartment in a large building set to be demolished after the Israeli military warns the inhabitants to evacuate within ten minutes. Those who stay do so at their own risk. Amira and Jasir cannot leave and must find a safe spot within the apartment that could protect them during the demolition. Their survival depends on whether they succeed.

Filmography

My sense of visuals drives me to try the camera in storytelling. Drawing from a background rooted in theatre, I tend to craft my scripts around specific locations. The theme of confinement, be it external or internal, particularly intrigues me.
